Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has underscored the importance of creating a policy framework to attract top information technology experts globally, aiming to strengthen Pakistan’s IT sector and contribute to economic growth. In a recent meeting, Kakar directed the formulation of policies to entice IT experts to Pakistan, recognizing the potential to enhance the country’s position in the global tech industry.
The government has been actively pursuing initiatives to bolster the IT sector, attract foreign investment, generate employment opportunities, and position Pakistan as a competitive player in the global tech arena. One such initiative involves the establishment of Special Technology Zones (STZs), offering incentives like tax exemptions and essential infrastructure to support IT companies and professionals.
Chairing the fifth meeting of the Board of Governors of Special Technology Zones Authority in Islamabad, Kakar emphasized the crucial role the IT sector can play in the nation’s economy. He highlighted the government’s efforts to promote foreign investment in the IT sector, noting significant progress in this regard.
The meeting focused on issues related to the establishment and functioning of Special Technology Zones in the country. Pakistan’s IT sector has garnered attention, particularly with local startups securing significant international funding, showcasing investor confidence in the country’s tech market and entrepreneurs.
Recent thriving startups span various sectors, including e-commerce, fintech, health-tech, ed-tech, and logistics. The government has also been actively exploring markets for IT exports, with a primary focus on the Middle East and Gulf countries in recent months.
