Air University’s Aerospace and Aviation Campus in Kamra will host a capacity building workshop titled Horizon Europe and Other Funding Opportunities, organized in collaboration with PIARA, aimed at helping faculty and researchers identify and access international research funding sources. The session is scheduled for July 29, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and will be held in a hybrid format, combining an in-person venue at the university with a livestream on Zoom and Facebook for remote participants.
The workshop features three resource persons speaking across dedicated sessions. Dr Ehsan Elahi of Red Hat and founder of PIARA will lead the first session, followed by Dr Shama Siddiqui of Dundalk Institute of Technology in Ireland for the second session, and Dr Mujahid Tabassum of South East Technological University, also in Ireland, for the third. The sessions will be moderated by Dr Muhammad Furqan, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Air University’s Aerospace and Aviation Campus in Kamra.
The workshop is designed to walk participants through practical guidance on securing funding through Horizon Europe and other international research grant programs, an area that remains a persistent challenge for researchers at Pakistani institutions looking to expand collaboration with European academic and industry partners. Drawing on speakers based at Irish universities alongside Pakistani academic and industry representatives, the session aims to bridge perspectives from both research ecosystems, giving attendees direct insight into how funding applications are evaluated and structured within the European framework.
Registration for the workshop is free, though participants must register in advance to secure a certificate of participation. Organizers described the event as relevant for research professionals in both Pakistan and Ireland, reflecting PIARA’s broader role in connecting the Pakistani academic diaspora with research and funding opportunities abroad. The session adds to a series of capacity building initiatives PIARA has supported in collaboration with Pakistani universities aimed at strengthening research funding literacy across the country’s higher education institutions.
