PEC under the leadership of Chairman Engr. Waseem Nazir, has officially launched the “Brain Gain Portal.” This innovative digital platform is designed to connect overseas Pakistani engineers with the country’s local engineering landscape, enabling them to contribute their expertise, mentor upcoming professionals, and support critical development initiatives from wherever they are in the world.

The Brain Gain Portal represents a bold vision for national progress, one that transforms the departure of skilled professionals into a new opportunity for global engagement. For decades, Pakistan has seen many of its brightest engineering minds seek education and careers abroad, often due to limited opportunities, political instability, or lack of infrastructure at home. This phenomenon, while beneficial to host countries, has left a void in Pakistan’s own capacity to harness and apply cutting-edge technical knowledge. The PEC’s new initiative is a strategic response aimed at bridging that gap.

By registering through https://braingain.pec.org.pk, Pakistani engineers based overseas can now play an active role in national development. The portal allows them to participate in a variety of capacities, including providing mentorship to young engineers, offering consultancy services to public and private sector projects, contributing to curriculum development in academia, and engaging in collaborative research with local institutions. It’s a framework that not only empowers the diaspora to give back, but also helps create a more dynamic and interconnected engineering ecosystem within Pakistan. The initiative comes at a time when Pakistan is grappling with pressing infrastructure and technological challenges. From energy shortages and urban planning to climate resilience and industrial modernization, the country needs advanced engineering solutions grounded in global best practices. The PEC sees the diaspora not as a community lost, but as a vast reservoir of knowledge and experience waiting to be tapped for the nation’s benefit.

Initial responses to the launch have been overwhelmingly positive. Engineers from across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia have already shown interest in the platform, viewing it as a long-awaited opportunity to reconnect with Pakistan’s growth story. Many are eager to offer their skills in sectors such as clean energy, sustainable architecture, artificial intelligence, and smart manufacturing—areas where Pakistan stands to benefit immensely from global expertise. The Brain Gain Portal also aligns with national priorities such as Vision 2025 and the Digital Pakistan initiative, both of which emphasize innovation, skill development, and international collaboration. It demonstrates how digital platforms can be used not only to deliver services but also to forge meaningful intellectual and professional bonds across borders.

In addition to individual contributions, the portal is expected to stimulate institutional partnerships between Pakistani universities, engineering bodies, and global research centers. These linkages could help raise the standard of engineering education, promote joint ventures, and provide exposure to global standards and innovations for the next generation of Pakistani engineers. Ultimately, the launch of the Brain Gain Portal is a timely and visionary step toward creating a globally integrated, resilient, and forward-looking engineering sector in Pakistan. It transforms a long-standing challenge into an opportunity for renewal and reinvestment, enabling overseas engineers to become stakeholders in the country’s future. As more professionals join this digital bridge to their homeland, Pakistan’s engineering landscape stands to be richer, stronger, and more connected than ever before.
