The Pakistan Engineering Council has launched the Brain Gain Portal, a networking platform currently operating in beta version, designed to connect Pakistani engineering professionals around the world with opportunities to mentor, collaborate, and contribute to engineering development back home. The platform is positioned as a facilitative networking space that brings together professionals, students, institutions, and global experts under a shared mission of knowledge sharing across borders.
According to figures listed on the portal, the platform currently includes 210 global experts, 558 regional experts, and eight worldwide chapters spanning different countries and regions. PEC Chairman Engr. Waseem Nazir described the portal as an official gateway for engineers of Pakistan, wherever they are located, to reconnect, lead, and help shape the country’s engineering future, framing participation not merely as an optional activity but as a responsibility engineers hold toward mentoring the next generation and contributing their expertise to national development.
The platform is structured around three simple steps for participants, beginning with joining and completing a professional profile, followed by connecting through Gain Circles or regional chapters aligned with a person’s specific area of specialization, and finally collaborating through events, mentorship programmes, and joint projects. The Gain Circles themselves bring together professionals sharing common technical interests regardless of physical location, covering areas including peer review of technical projects, technical assistance for sector specific challenges, mentoring startups, participating in a broader experts network, offering service based consulting, supervising Final Year Projects at universities, and providing career guidance to those seeking professional advice from experienced industry veterans.
Beyond the Gain Circles, the portal also operates a network of worldwide chapters, including America with 31 members, Australia and New Zealand with 39 members, Canada with 14 members, China with 19 members and one active project, Europe with 31 members, the Gulf with 91 members, the United Kingdom with 58 members, and Pakistan itself with 420 members and two active projects. These chapters are designed to help members connect through events, develop their careers via specialized workshops, and sustain community impact through volunteer driven projects. The portal also features an Engineering Excellence section highlighting a Hall of Fame recognizing visionaries who shaped Pakistan’s infrastructure, along with sections dedicated to iconic engineering projects and success stories from engineers pushing the boundaries of innovation, rounding out the platform’s broader goal of building bridges between overseas Pakistani engineers and the country’s engineering community.
