Pakistan has completed a major milestone in its telecommunications sector with the successful conclusion of the national 5G spectrum auction, paving the way for the next phase of mobile connectivity across the country. The auction allocated multiple frequency bands among leading telecom operators, enabling them to strengthen existing fourth generation services while preparing for the gradual rollout of fifth generation networks. The process was conducted under the supervision of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, with regulatory oversight also involving the National Economic and Regulatory Authority. Officials say the transparent auction process marks a significant step toward expanding digital infrastructure and improving mobile broadband capacity for millions of users nationwide.

According to the final allocation summary, Jazz Pakistan emerged as the largest spectrum acquirer during the auction, securing a total of 190 megahertz across several frequency bands. The operator obtained 20 megahertz in the 700 megahertz band, 50 megahertz in the 2300 megahertz band, 70 megahertz in the 2600 megahertz band and an additional 50 megahertz in the 3500 megahertz band. Industry analysts say this diversified spectrum portfolio will allow the company to expand its network capacity while strengthening coverage across both urban and suburban areas. The mix of low band, mid band and high capacity spectrum is expected to support improved coverage, higher speeds and enhanced reliability for mobile users.

Meanwhile Ufone Pakistan secured a total of 180 megahertz in the auction, focusing heavily on the 3500 megahertz band, which is widely considered a key frequency range for fifth generation mobile technology. The operator obtained 60 megahertz in the 2600 megahertz band and 120 megahertz in the 3500 megahertz band. Telecommunications experts note that the concentration in the higher capacity band could enable Ufone to deliver strong high speed data services once 5G infrastructure becomes operational. The strategy indicates the company’s intention to emphasize performance improvements in densely populated areas where demand for high speed mobile data continues to increase.

Zong Pakistan also strengthened its position in the mid band spectrum segment, acquiring 110 megahertz during the auction. The operator secured 60 megahertz in the 2600 megahertz band along with 50 megahertz in the 3500 megahertz band. These allocations are expected to enhance the company’s network capacity while preparing the foundation for future 5G deployment. Authorities say the conclusion of the spectrum auction will lead to enhanced fourth generation services in the near term while telecom companies begin early fifth generation rollout in major cities. Officials involved in the process have indicated that a broader nationwide launch of 5G services could take place by the middle of 2026 as operators continue to expand their infrastructure and upgrade networks across Pakistan.
