The 2600 MHz frequency band has emerged as the most sought-after segment in Pakistan’s ongoing 5G spectrum auction, reflecting strong interest from telecom operators in securing high-capacity spectrum. Competition remains intense among all three participating companies as they continue to bid for the nineteen lots available in this band. During the first round of the auction, demand exceeded supply with requests for eleven additional lots, while after the completion of the second round, the additional demand has moderated slightly to seven lots, indicating ongoing strategic bidding by operators.

The heightened interest in the 2600 MHz band has led to a significant rise in its base price. Originally set at twelve point five million US dollars per lot, the price increased by five percent after the second round, reaching thirteen point one two million dollars per lot. Following another five percent increase in the third round, the base price now stands at thirteen point seven eight one million dollars per lot, underscoring the value placed on this frequency band for the deployment of advanced 5G services.

Officials noted that the 2600 MHz band’s popularity stems from its suitability for providing high-speed mobile internet and supporting emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and enhanced enterprise solutions. Telecom operators are expected to continue aggressive bidding in subsequent rounds as they seek to strengthen their network capacities and expand digital services to major urban centres across the country.

The ongoing auction process demonstrates Pakistan’s commitment to advancing its digital infrastructure and ensuring that spectrum resources are allocated efficiently. As the government and PTA continue to facilitate the rollout of 5G, industry observers anticipate that the competitive activity around high-demand frequency bands such as 2600 MHz will play a pivotal role in shaping the next phase of connectivity and digital services in the country.
