Pakistan Wins 3 Golds, 6 Silvers at APICTA 2016

Pakistan won 3 Gold Awards and 6 Silver Awards at the Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) 2016 ceremony held in Taipei, Taiwan yesterday.

Leading the way with the Golds were a young team from NUST for their project ‘Clinical Decision Support System for Diagnosis of Movement Disorders’, another team from NUST who collaborated with CASE, AFIO and Biomisa for their Research and Development project ‘Analysis of Optical Coherence Tomography Image for CDSS’ and Wondertree, a startup from P@SHA’s Tech Incubator The Nest i/o who won in the Inclusion and Community Category.

The Silver awards were bagged by Amin Farid for his chatbot school project on Conversation Engineering and Mr. Higgins, NUST for their project Sionser, UBL Fund Managers for their financial product imPro, Trillium Information Systems for their Security product T-Eye and two startups of The Nest i/o – MandiExpress and Sheops.

28 teams from Pakistan competed against 236 from 17 economies across the Asia Pacific and were judged by 60+ seasoned professionals.

Participants representing Pakistan were winners and runners-up at P@SHA’s ICT Awards Program 2016.

The regional Awards ceremony invites applications from 17 economies, including Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, China, Chinese Taipei (Taiwan), Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, Nepal and Pakistan.

Judges from Pakistan included Jawwad A. Farid, Badar Khushnood, Dr Shoab Khan, Sultan Hamdani and Jehan Ara.

To bring innovation by Pakistani IT companies to the forefront, P@SHA took a delegation of 41 people to Taipei for the 16th annual APICTA Awards, a four day event that is deemed as the Oscars night for the Asia Pacific ICT arena.

GOLD AWARD

This product is an integration of hardware and software that accurately collects data samples from patient’s hand tremors and analyzes it to give doctors support in their clinical decision making.

GOLD AWARD

  • Institution: NUST College of EME with collaborating units CASE, AFIO and Biomisa
  • Product: Analysis of Optical Coherence Tomography Image for CDSS
  • Category: Research and Development

The product offers the capabilities of a self-diagnosis system to auto diagnosis of different complications of macular and ocular pathology. The objective is to prevent sudden blindness or vision loss by providing an easy to access service to remote area patients all over Pakistan.

WonderTree is a platform that helps special children develop physical, social, academic and life skill sets through their augmented reality games.

SILVER AWARD

  • Product:Conversation Engineering and chatbots
  • Category: School Project

The Higgins Engine is a conversation engineering tool that evaluate chat bot chat scripts as input and scores them for readability, complexity, and user experience based on rules identified as part of a chatbot implementation on Botsify.

The tool helps improves chatbot answers, increases customer satisfaction and sales conversions and boosts overall user experience.

Sheops is an online marketplace for women that provides entrepreneurship and earning opportunities to women and small women-owned businesses through a hassle-free and easy-to-use platform.

  • Product:T-Eye Platform

T-Eye provides an insight into the threat landscape specific to an organization. It is capable of hosting different types of emulation services that are designed as decoy systems for attackers to interact with.
