PTA is set to proceed with the 5G spectrum auction, with the financial bids of five international consultants scheduled to be opened on October 3, 2024.

The government aims to complete the auction process by April 2025, ensuring a timely rollout of 5G services in the country. The auction will contribute to the improvement of next-generation mobile broadband services and boost digital transformation.

Five international consulting firms have qualified for the technical bidding process: Aetha Consulting Limited, Detecon Consulting FZ-LLC, Frontier Economics Limited, Kom Konsult (Private) Limited, and National Economic Research Associates Inc.

PTA conducted a thorough evaluation of the technical bids submitted by these firms, adhering to the guidelines of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA).

The selected consultant will provide valuable insights and recommendations to the government on key areas such as policy actions and reforms for increased infrastructure investment, broadband proliferation and business sustainability, a comparison of Pakistan’s spectrum assignments with regional practices, spectrum pricing and payment options, recommendations for limiting human exposure to electromagnetic fields, and the valuation of spectrum for various bands.

PTA’s initiative to conduct a 5G spectrum auction demonstrates its commitment to advancing digitalization and providing citizens with access to cutting-edge telecommunication services.
