Pakistani government has implemented stricter measures to ensure confidentiality in lawful interceptions conducted by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and telecom operators. This decision comes after a proposal from the IT & Telecom Division and subsequent approval by the federal cabinet.

The new policy directives prioritize the complete secrecy of communications and information related to lawful interceptions. PTA will be responsible for implementing these directives and issuing updated instructions to local telecom operators and service providers.

The directives emphasize that no unauthorized individual can access information about lawful interceptions. PTA will maintain the authority to manage interception requests in accordance with existing laws.

This move by the federal cabinet, following the Rules of Business, 1973, reinforces the government’s commitment to safeguarding sensitive information surrounding lawful interceptions conducted by PTA and telecom companies.
