Pakistan has achieved a major milestone in its digital governance journey, climbing 14 positions in the United Nations E-Government Development Index (EGDI) 2024. This achievement signifies the country’s growing strength in e-governance and digital innovation.

The significant improvement in ranking, from 150th in 2022 to 136th in 2024, has propelled Pakistan into the High EGDI category for the first time. This categorization indicates substantial advancements in the government’s ability to deliver services digitally.

Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, the driving force behind this progress, expressed her delight.

“I am delighted to inform that Pakistan has made significant strides in the United Nations E-Government Development Index (EGDI) 2024, moving up 14 positions to rank 136th, from 150th in the 2022 survey. Notably, Pakistan has transitioned from the ‘Middle EGDI category’ to the High EGDI category for the first time, indicating significant advancements in their digital government capabilities.”

Minister Khawaja further acknowledged the contributions of key players in this achievement:

“I would like to thank the Hon PM sb for his constant and keen personal interest in pushing for eGov initiatives over the last two years and recognize the contribution of NITB, our MoITT department leading the E-governance within Government of Pakistan.”

This impressive leap in the EGDI ranking underscores the positive impact of Pakistan’s commitment to digital transformation. The collaborative efforts of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, and the National Information Technology Board have yielded significant results.
