Federal Minister for IT & Telecom, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, represented Pakistan at the Opening Ceremony of the World Telecommunication Development Conference held in Baku, Azerbaijan. Addressing an international audience of policymakers, regulators, and industry leaders, the Minister highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing commitment to fostering digital inclusion and expanding access to technology across all regions of the country. Her remarks reinforced Pakistan’s focus on ensuring equitable access to telecommunication services and digital platforms under the framework of the Prime Minister’s Digital Nation Vision.

During her address, the Minister emphasized the importance of global collaboration to address the evolving challenges and opportunities in the ICT sector. She outlined Pakistan’s initiatives aimed at building an inclusive digital ecosystem, including investments in broadband infrastructure, expansion of ICT literacy programs, and support for technology-driven entrepreneurship. Shaza Fatima Khawaja underscored that cooperation between countries, international organizations, and the private sector is essential to achieve a sustainable and accessible digital future, particularly for underserved populations.

The Minister also highlighted the role of Pakistan in contributing to regional and global ICT development efforts. By actively participating in discussions at WTDC 2025, the country seeks to share experiences, learn best practices, and engage in partnerships that advance technological innovation and policy frameworks. Pakistan’s engagement reflects a broader strategy to position itself as a proactive participant in shaping the global digital agenda, promoting equitable access, and addressing digital divides both within the country and across the region.

Shaza Fatima Khawaja further stressed that digital inclusion is not limited to connectivity alone but extends to enabling citizens to benefit from digital services, e-governance, and online platforms that support education, commerce, and social development. She highlighted that the Digital Nation Vision aims to integrate ICT across government, private enterprise, and civil society, creating opportunities for economic growth and social progress. By aligning national policies with international development goals, Pakistan is working to ensure that technology becomes a tool for empowerment and inclusive growth.

The participation of Pakistan at WTDC 2025 in Baku demonstrates the country’s commitment to both domestic digital advancement and active engagement in the global ICT community. By focusing on policy development, infrastructure expansion, and capacity building, the government aims to strengthen Pakistan’s position in international telecommunication and technology discussions. Minister Khawaja’s presence and remarks at the conference underline the country’s intention to foster collaboration, innovation, and equitable access as key priorities in achieving a digitally inclusive future for all citizens.
