The government has announced plans to modernize Pakistan’s law enforcement system through the introduction of advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence and drones, alongside institutional reforms inspired by China’s policing model. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi shared the details during a meeting with Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) who recently completed specialized training programs in China and Türkiye. The proposed reforms are aimed at improving policing capabilities, strengthening investigations, and enhancing the efficiency of the criminal justice system through the adoption of modern technologies and international best practices.
According to the minister, the government intends to establish a pilot Law Enforcement Investigation Centre in Islamabad based on China’s policing model. The proposed facility will bring detention, investigation, and summary trial procedures under one roof with the objective of speeding up the disposal of minor offense cases while improving coordination among different stages of the criminal justice process. Naqvi stated that the initiative forms part of a broader reform program designed to modernize law enforcement institutions and strengthen operational effectiveness through technology driven solutions. During the meeting, he also informed the officers that overseas training programs would become a permanent component of the professional development of Pakistani police personnel. The specialized training in China and Türkiye is intended to expose officers to international policing methods, investigative practices, and operational techniques that can be adapted to local requirements.
The modernization plan also includes expanding the use of advanced surveillance technologies and crime prevention tools across law enforcement agencies. As part of these efforts, the Ministry of Interior Aviation Wing will be equipped with advanced drones to improve aerial surveillance capabilities during field operations. The deployment of drone technology is expected to support monitoring activities, assist operational planning, and strengthen situational awareness in various policing environments. In addition to introducing modern surveillance equipment, the government plans to establish specialized investigation rooms at National Police Academy. These facilities will support practical training and help officers develop investigative skills using updated methods. The police training curriculum will also be revised to include modern investigation techniques based on international best practices, enabling officers to strengthen their professional capabilities through structured learning and practical experience.
Alongside technology and training reforms, the government also plans to introduce a redesigned police uniform developed to better meet operational requirements. The proposed changes are intended to complement the broader modernization strategy by improving both operational readiness and institutional effectiveness. The combination of artificial intelligence, advanced drones, specialized investigation facilities, updated training programs, and improved operational resources reflects the government’s effort to enhance policing standards and strengthen law enforcement capabilities. By incorporating modern investigative methods and technology into policing operations, the reform program seeks to improve efficiency across different areas of law enforcement while supporting better coordination within the criminal justice system. The pilot Law Enforcement Investigation Centre in Islamabad will serve as a key part of these modernization efforts as the government moves forward with reforms designed to strengthen policing infrastructure and operational performance across the country.
