Pakistan is set to host the International Conference on Applications of Space Science and Technology (ICAST 2025) from November 18 to 20 at the Institute of Space Technology (IST), attracting leading figures from the global space community. Jointly organized by SUPARCO and IST, the three-day event aims to promote innovation, collaboration, and dialogue in space science and technology while demonstrating the role of space applications in sustainable development. Partner organizations include the Inter-Islamic Network on Space Science and Technology (ISNET), Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO), Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), IEEE, and the National Center of GIS and Space Applications (NCGSA).

ICAST 2025 is themed “Space for Sustainable Development,” highlighting how space-based solutions can address pressing challenges such as climate change, disaster resilience, food security, and infrastructure planning. The event will host more than 2,000 participants from over 25 countries across Asia, Europe, Africa, North America, and Oceania. Delegates will represent nations including Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belgium, Canada, China, Egypt, Iraq, Italy, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Mongolia, Morocco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Singapore, Sudan, Tunisia, Turkiye, UAE, and the United States.

The conference program features a mix of strategic forums, specialized seminars, panel discussions, plenary sessions, masterclasses, and technical sessions covering eight thematic tracks: Aeronautics and Astronautics, Astronomy and Astrophysics, Satellite Technology, Positioning Navigation and Timing, Remote Sensing and GIS, Environmental Science and Climate Change, ICT, and Space Law, Management and Outreach. Additional highlights include a Technology Exhibition Forum, a Scientific Poster Session, and a Meet the Astronauts Forum featuring astronauts from Turkiye, Mongolia, and the United States. A dedicated session on “Moon Sighting: Scientific, Religious and Technological Perspectives” will bring global experts together to explore both traditional and modern observation methods.

In conjunction with GIS Day 2025, the conference will emphasize the use of geospatial technologies, Earth observation, climate analytics, and the application of artificial intelligence in environmental monitoring and decision-making. Diplomatic engagement is a key aspect, with the 14th Governing Body Meeting of ISNET taking place alongside multiple MoU signings with space agencies and international organizations from the Asia-Pacific region, Bangladesh, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Senegal, and Tunisia, among others. These agreements aim to deepen collaboration in peaceful space applications while strengthening scientific exchange and international partnerships.

ICAST 2025 underscores Pakistan’s ambition to be a significant player in the global space ecosystem. By hosting leading scientists, engineers, and policymakers, the conference is positioned as a platform for knowledge sharing, research collaboration, and technological advancement. The event reflects the country’s commitment to promoting space science, advancing sustainable development, and enhancing its international visibility in aerospace innovation and research.
