Pakistan Gears Up for Its Own E-Payment System
At an event held earlier this week in Lahore, the Punjab Finance Minister Dr. Ayesha Ghaus Pasha has said Pakistan is almost ready to initiate an e-payment system as 97% of the work to set this up has been completed.
The announcement was made at the Doing Business Reforms Exhibition, organized by the Punjab Planning Department in collaboration with the World Bank.

Speaking on the occasion she said, “All provinces are on board and we are very close to fulfilling this long overdue of demand of business community.” She also stated that the private sector plays a huge role in positively contributing to the economy and that the government is committed to bringing transparency and efficiency in the administration. She further added,
“Competitive business environment will foster investments, which will in turn create quality jobs,
thereby elevating the socio-economic status of the public.”

The World Bank Country Director for Pakistan Patchamuthu Illangovan, speaking on the work being done in the country over the decade said has been impressive and this is the year they will definitely see results.
“We have to wait till September for fresh rankings on the ease of doing business, currently Pakistan stands at 147th position and the work it has done in this regard should be reflected in the upcoming rankings.”
However, he added that with 190 countries competing in the index Pakistan will have to continue making efforts to really stand out.
