The Pakistan Engineering Council has introduced a Digital E-Card for registered engineers, replacing the physical PEC card as proof of registration. The card is now available in each engineer’s PEC login profile and can also be accessed through the NADRA Pak ID app, where it can be used for verification and official purposes. PEC has asked engineers to go digital with their registration and to use the E-Card as the official proof of PEC registration wherever it is required, so that they can access it at any time and from any place.

PEC has also confirmed that the physical PEC card has been discontinued. Engineers who have relied on the printed card to show that they are registered will now need to present the Digital E-Card instead. A digital card can be shown on a phone, which saves engineers from carrying a printed document and from waiting for a new card to be printed and delivered. Linking the E-Card to the NADRA Pak ID app also gives the card a verification route tied to the national digital identity system, which can make it easier for employers, clients and authorities to confirm that a person is registered. The Pak ID app has been adding features in recent weeks, including digital identity cards for family members and QR code verification of documents.

The new card forms part of PEC’s wider move to digitise its operations. PEC Chairman Waseem Nazir said earlier this year that the council aims to fully digitise its systems by December 2026, with licensing, registration, verification and other processes carried out online. The council has also introduced an instant renewal facility that allows contractors to renew licences within 24 hours and is preparing an e-licence facility for contractors. It has signed an agreement with NADRA to provide digital identity services for engineers at the national level, and the E-Card’s availability through the Pak ID app is one visible result of that cooperation. PEC has described its digital reforms as a way to modernise engineering services, reduce delays and make registration and licensing more efficient.

For registered engineers, the change means checking that their PEC login profile is active and that they can open the E-Card, since it is now the main proof of registration. PEC did not say in its announcement whether any fee applies or how organisations that still ask for the physical card will be informed. The council will probably address these questions through its portal and its other channels as more engineers begin using the digital version of their registration, and engineers who need help can contact PEC through those channels.
