Pakistan’s federal government has established two new Cabinet Committees to tackle critical areas: Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and Immigration, Overseas Employment & Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
SIFC committee, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, will oversee the implementation of recommendations made by the SIFC itself. This committee aims to streamline investment processes and eliminate roadblocks for businesses. Decisions made by the SIFC committee will require final approval from the federal cabinet. Highlighting the committee’s importance, the Army Chief, Provincial Chief Ministers, and the National Coordinator will be invited to attend meetings on a special basis.
The second committee focuses on Immigration, Overseas Employment & TVET and will serve as a central platform for relevant government agencies. This committee will review existing policies related to overseas employment and technical training, aiming to improve opportunities and worker welfare. Curriculum development, monitoring, and evaluation frameworks for vocational training institutions will fall under this committee’s responsibility. Additionally, the committee will devise plans to combat illegal immigration, human trafficking, and exploitation of skilled workers. An action plan to engage with international partners on these issues is also in the works.
These new cabinet committees demonstrate the government’s commitment to fostering a more supportive environment for both investment and skilled workers in Pakistan.
