Pakistan and the United States have agreed to enhance cooperation in digital skills development, youth training, and human capital initiatives following a high-level U.S. delegation’s visit to Islamabad. Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja briefed the delegation on Pakistan’s large-scale digital upskilling programs being implemented through PSEB and Ignite. She highlighted that these initiatives are preparing youth to participate in advanced global technology markets through training in 5G, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, data analytics, and full-stack development. Specialized certifications in Web Engineering, Cloud Infrastructure, and Artificial Intelligence have been designed to align with international industry standards.
Minister Khawaja emphasized Ignite’s flagship DigiSkills program, which has trained over 4.87 million participants in freelancing, digital marketing, e-commerce, and emerging technologies, including AI. She noted that the program has improved employability and strengthened Pakistan-U.S. economic linkages through platforms like Fiverr and Upwork, allowing young Pakistanis to connect with global clients. The minister also presented the “Code4AI” initiative, which will train more than 7,500 youth in AI, Blockchain, and Quantum Computing, opening opportunities for U.S. companies to remotely hire skilled professionals from Pakistan.
The meeting also focused on cybersecurity capacity building, with proposals for collaboration on cross-border hackathons, mentorship programs, and specialized training. Ignite’s Center of Excellence for Gaming and Animation was highlighted as a hub for potential joint initiatives in animation, gaming, AR, VR, and digital content creation. The delegation was informed that Pakistan’s eight National Incubation Centers have supported more than 2,100 startups, generated over PKR 33 billion in revenue, attracted PKR 32 billion in investment, and created more than 185,000 jobs nationwide.
U.S. officials shared updates on programs such as Fulbright, IVLP, PFP, YES, TechWomen, TechGirls, and English Access. Both sides agreed to expand university partnerships, including opportunities for U.S. professors to deliver advanced technology training to Pakistani students. The meeting concluded with a commitment to deepen academic cooperation, advance digital transformation, and enhance global opportunities for Pakistani youth in technology. The delegation included senior officials from the U.S. Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, the Minister Counselor for Public Diplomacy, representatives from the U.S. Embassy, and Tech Valley Pakistan CEO Umar Farooq.
