Pakistan and Japan have strengthened their educational ties through a landmark grant agreement signed today at the Ministry of Economic Affairs. This agreement bolsters the Human Resource Development Scholarship Program program for 2024.
Japan, through JICA, has provided a generous grant of JPY 326 million ($2.1 million). This marks the 7th installment of the JDS project since its launch in 2018.
The grant will offer 17 scholarships for Master’s programs and 1 PhD scholarship at prestigious Japanese universities. Young Federal Civil Service and Ex-Cadre officers in Pakistan will be eligible for these scholarships. Since 2018, over 100 Pakistani officers have benefitted from the JDS program, enhancing their capacity and contributing to Pakistan’s socio-economic development.
Dr. Kazim Niaz, Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, expressed his deep gratitude to the Japanese government and people for their unwavering support. This support ensures all necessary facilitation for furthering meaningful cooperation between the two nations. Japan’s commitment extends beyond JDS, with frequent invitations for Pakistani officials to participate in short-term training courses in Japan.
This agreement highlights the continued collaboration between Pakistan and Japan in promoting educational exchange and supporting the professional development of Pakistani civil servants.
