ORIC at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) has announced the launch of an 8-week capacity building program designed to enhance IT and research skills among university staff. The initiative invites experienced industry professionals and visiting professors to serve as trainers, bringing their expertise directly into the academic environment. With an emphasis on bridging the gap between industry and education, the program reflects a growing effort to improve digital literacy and research proficiency within higher education institutions in Pakistan.

The training will cover a wide range of areas that are increasingly relevant for academic and administrative staff. Sessions will include IT and office productivity, focusing on Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email management, as well as Google Workspace and Microsoft Teams. Project and task management will also be part of the curriculum, introducing tools such as Trello, Asana, and Gantt charts to help participants strengthen organizational skills. The program further extends into creative and technical domains with modules on graphic design and communication using Canva, cybersecurity essentials, website and social media promotion for research visibility, and management of webinars and online meetings through platforms like Zoom and Google Meet.

By encouraging industry professionals to step in as trainers, MUET is not only offering staff members practical skills but also ensuring that the training content aligns with current industry practices. This direct interaction with experts allows participants to gain exposure to real-world applications, helping them adapt to evolving professional requirements. The initiative also underlines the importance of digital transformation within universities, ensuring that staff are well-prepared to manage tools that support research promotion and academic collaboration.

The program provides a unique opportunity for professionals to share their expertise while contributing to the development of digital capacity in higher education. For trainers, it presents a platform to engage with academia, influence skill-building efforts, and create stronger connections between educational institutions and industry. Interested candidates have been invited to send their CVs to oric@admin.muet.edu.pk with the subject line “Application – Visiting Trainer.” The training will soon be launched at MUET, highlighting the university’s continued commitment to digital readiness and academic excellence.
