The National Spatial Data Infrastructure Directorate at Survey of Pakistan is set to organize the first national seminar centered on powering the country’s digital geospatial future, with the event scheduled to take place at the NUST Centre for International Peace and Stability on 23 July 2026. The seminar is expected to bring together a range of guest speakers with backgrounds spanning innovation policy, meteorology, remote sensing and climate research. Among the confirmed speakers is Barira Hanif, who serves as Sector Specialist for Innovation at the Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives and leads the ten billion rupee Pakistan Innovation Fund. Also scheduled to speak is Farooq Iqbal, an Associate Professor in the Department of Meteorology at COMSATS University Islamabad, who leads the Applied Geo-Informatics Research Lab at the institution.
Additional speakers include Asmat Ali, who holds a doctorate in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems and previously headed the feasibility study project for Pakistan’s National Spatial Data Infrastructure as Project Director, earning recognition as a leading figure behind the initiative. Qudsia Zafar, a Senior Scientific Officer in the Climatology and Environment Section at the Global Climate Change Impact Studies Centre under the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, will also take part in the proceedings. Abdul Wahid, who has worked on developing foundational geospatial datasets aligned with the National Spatial Data Infrastructure framework and has implemented decision support systems using the Esri ArcGIS platform, rounds out the current list of confirmed participants.
The event is being positioned as an important gathering for stakeholders involved in geospatial data policy and digital infrastructure development across Pakistan.
