NUST’s Formula Student Team (NFST), renowned for its triumphs in the Formula Student Competition in the UK, is breaking new ground with a collaboration with electric car giant Tesla. After a decade of building combustion engine cars for educational motorsport competitions, NFST is taking a different approach this time.

The team is currently working on a hybrid engine vehicle, incorporating the Honda CBR 600 F4i motorcycle engine in a rear-wheel-drive configuration. Powering the vehicle will be a 60-volt Lithium-ion battery pack, and Tesla is contributing its expertise by providing the battery management system.

The battery management system plays a crucial role in controlling the voltage and temperature of the batteries, ensuring optimal performance whenever the motor draws power. With Tesla’s support, NFST expects a smoother progression in developing this innovative vehicle.

The team aims to complete the vehicle between March and April 2024, with the competition scheduled to kick off in July of the same year.

Expressing their gratitude for Tesla’s sponsorship, NFST states,

“NUST Formula Student Team (NFST) brings Tesla onboard making the university proud once again. This marks a groundbreaking moment for innovation at NUST. As the longest-running and most prestigious university team in Pakistan, their consistent victories at Formula Student events continue to make the nation proud. Together with Tesla, NFST is poised for even greater success on the global stage.”

In the recent Formula Student UK 2023 Concept Class, NFST clinched the 1st position in the Lap Time Simulation event, showcasing their car’s exceptional handling capabilities. Additionally, the team secured the 6th position in the design and cost categories, emphasizing the engineering and cost-effectiveness of their vehicle.
