National Information Technology Board (NITB) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development to strengthen institutional collaboration and expand citizen centric digital public services under the Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP). The agreement represents another step in the government’s ongoing efforts to accelerate Pakistan’s digital transformation by improving public service delivery through Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). The collaboration is aimed at identifying and integrating high impact digital services that provide overseas Pakistanis with secure, seamless, and accessible government services while supporting the development of an interoperable digital ecosystem.
The MoU establishes a framework for cooperation between NITB and the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development to support the implementation of digital initiatives under the Digital Economy Enhancement Project. According to the announcement, both organizations will work together to identify opportunities for integrating digital public services that can improve the experience of overseas Pakistanis when accessing government services. The partnership focuses on leveraging Digital Public Infrastructure to enable efficient service delivery while strengthening coordination between government institutions involved in digital transformation initiatives. Through this collaboration, the participating organizations intend to enhance digital accessibility and simplify the delivery of public services by promoting secure and interconnected digital platforms. The initiative reflects the government’s broader objective of improving digital governance while making public services more responsive to the needs of citizens living both within Pakistan and abroad.
The agreement also reinforces ongoing efforts to build an interoperable and inclusive digital ecosystem capable of supporting modern public service delivery. By utilizing Digital Public Infrastructure, the project aims to improve the integration of government systems while enabling different institutions to collaborate more effectively in delivering digital services. The Digital Economy Enhancement Project continues to support initiatives that strengthen digital governance and encourage greater adoption of technology across public sector organizations. Officials stated that the partnership will contribute to identifying digital services that can deliver greater value to overseas Pakistanis while supporting more efficient communication and interaction with government departments. The focus on interoperability is intended to help create a connected digital environment where citizens can access multiple government services through streamlined and secure digital channels.
The signing ceremony brought together representatives from several government organizations and digital transformation initiatives, including Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, Pakistan Digital Authority, Tech Destination Pakistan, Digital Leaders, and Government of Pakistan. Among those associated with the event were Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Khawaja, NITB Chief Executive Officer Babar Sheikh, Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication Secretary Zarrar Khan, and officials from the participating organizations involved in advancing Pakistan’s digital transformation agenda. Through the MoU, NITB and the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development reaffirmed their commitment to expanding citizen centric digital public services under the Digital Economy Enhancement Project while supporting secure, accessible, and technology driven government service delivery for overseas Pakistanis and strengthening the country’s broader digital transformation objectives.
