NED University of Engineering and Technology alumnus Sohail Syed, a Computer Systems Engineering graduate of the class of 1992, has led his company DreamBig Semiconductor Inc. into a significant acquisition by global semiconductor leader Arm. The deal, valued at USD 265 million, highlights the growing relevance of Pakistan’s tech ecosystem in the global semiconductor and AI networking markets. DreamBig Semiconductor operates its offices from NED University’s campus, reflecting the university’s commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurial ventures.

Arm, which recently reported $1.14 billion in quarterly revenue, representing a 34% increase year-on-year, has cited strong demand across AI, data centres, and mobile platforms as key growth drivers. The acquisition of DreamBig Semiconductor aligns with Arm’s strategic expansion into next-generation networking and chiplet-based AI infrastructure. Sohail Syed and his team bring extensive expertise in AI networking technologies, which Arm aims to integrate into its portfolio to enhance its offerings across advanced AI and data centre solutions.

The transaction not only reinforces Arm’s position in the semiconductor market but also strengthens NED University’s role as a hub for technology innovation. NED Tech Park, where DreamBig Semiconductor is headquartered, has become an important ecosystem for startups, research initiatives, and global collaborations. The success of DreamBig Semiconductor underscores the university’s ability to nurture ventures that attract international investment and contribute to Pakistan’s growing presence in the tech sector.

Industry experts note that this acquisition provides both strategic and symbolic value. It demonstrates the capability of Pakistani tech entrepreneurs to compete on a global scale while contributing innovative solutions in AI and networking. For students and researchers at NED University, the development serves as an encouraging example of how local talent can achieve significant global recognition. Sohail Syed’s leadership and DreamBig Semiconductor’s technological advancements represent an important milestone for Pakistan’s semiconductor landscape and provide momentum for further innovation within the country’s tech ecosystem.

Heartfelt congratulations go to Sohail Syed, the DreamBig Semiconductor team, and the broader NED University community on this achievement, which showcases the potential of Pakistan-based technology ventures in the global arena.
