The Chairman of National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) chaired a meeting with a delegation from UNESCO-UNEVOC and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Sector Support Programme, to review progress on a project for capacity building of TVET managers for institutional transformation and sustainable development in Pakistan. The meeting also explored opportunities for enhanced collaboration in the TVET sector of the country. The project is supported under the Team Europe Initiative, which is funded by the European Union, and it is being implemented in collaboration with UNESCO-UNEVOC, NAVTTC, regional TVET bodies and GIZ, with a focus on improving the leadership and management capacities of 300 TVET managers across Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Gilgit Baltistan (GB) and Balochistan.

During the meeting, Ms. Nadia Shah, Technical Adviser, engaged with the delegation in discussions on project progress, potential areas of collaboration and opportunities to improve institutional partnerships among NAVTTC, UNESCO-UNEVOC and GIZ TVET Sector Support Programme. The discussions focused on expanding capacity building initiatives, promoting knowledge exchange and identifying further avenues of cooperation to enhance the professional development of TVET managers across the country. The conversation therefore covered both the current state of the project and the ways in which the three partners could work together on similar efforts in the future, so that the benefits of the training reach managers beyond those who are already taking part.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Pieume Calice Olivier, Head of the Technical Cooperation Unit at UNESCO-UNEVOC in Bonn, Germany, Mr. Zafar Hayat Malik, Head of Education at UNESCO Pakistan, and Dr. Muhammad Naeem Akhtar, Project Coordinator and National Consultant at UNESCO Pakistan. Representing GIZ were Ms. Naing Yee Mar, Component Manager of the GIZ TVET Sector Support Programme, Mr. Umar Baba, Component Manager, and Engr. Muhammad Bais. The presence of officials from Germany, from the country office of UNESCO and from GIZ shows that several levels of the partnership are involved in the project, and that the review brought together those who coordinate its work in Pakistan and those who guide its technical direction.

The delegation from UNESCO-UNEVOC and GIZ appreciated the valuable support and contributions of Ms. Ghazala, Deputy Director (Training) at NAVTTC, towards the successful implementation of the project. They emphasized the importance of her continued support and coordination to ensure that the project is completed successfully by December 2026. The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of the partners to improve institutional cooperation under the Team Europe Initiative supported by the European Union, to advance sustainable capacity building, to facilitate knowledge exchange and to contribute to the continued development of the TVET ecosystem of Pakistan, with the completion date of December 2026 serving as the next milestone for the project.
