The National Vocational and Technical Training Commission has announced what it is describing as Pakistan’s biggest skills competition, inviting young talent from across the country to compete on the national stage under the WorldSkills Pakistan banner. The initiative is being organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany, and the Asian Development Bank, with additional support from Team Europe’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training Sector Support Programme funded by the European Union.
The National Skills Competition identifies Pakistan’s best talent and prepares them for international contests such as WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, which is shaping up to be a landmark moment for the country’s technical and vocational education sector. WorldSkills Pakistan is preparing to take part in six competition skills at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, with a national preparation roadmap that includes a series of activities designed to identify, train, and prepare the country’s best talent. The 48th WorldSkills Competition will be held in Shanghai, China from September 22 to September 27, 2026, making the current national competition cycle a direct pathway for Pakistani youth to earn a place on the international stage.
WorldSkills Pakistan connects industry, training institutions, and youth to elevate vocational education and training to international standards, with competitions designed to inspire excellence, foster innovation, and prepare youth for global career opportunities. Previous national competitions organized by NAVTTC have covered a broad range of skill areas including hospitality, mechanical, textile, construction, services, and information technology, reflecting the commission’s focus on aligning skills training with actual market demand rather than theoretical curricula. NAVTTC has shifted from output-based courses to industry-led training programs, providing real-time, hands-on training aligned with the actual needs of the market. The involvement of international development partners including GIZ and the Asian Development Bank signals that the competition is part of a longer-term investment in Pakistan’s technical and vocational education and training ecosystem, with the goal of raising the country’s global competitiveness in skilled trades and technical disciplines at a time when demand for certified vocational talent continues to grow both domestically and in international labor markets.
