The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has warned citizens against fake tracking IDs and misleading information circulating across social media platforms. The authority has urged people to protect their personal information and avoid sharing sensitive details in public comments, particularly when seeking assistance related to identity documents and NADRA services.
According to NADRA, tracking IDs will not be provided through comments on social media platforms. The authority has advised citizens not to post their tracking IDs or other private information in the comments sections of its official social media accounts. Sharing such information publicly can expose personal data and create opportunities for misuse. NADRA has also cautioned citizens against relying on unverified social media accounts, suspicious links or unknown messages that claim to provide assistance with tracking applications or identity related services. Users have been advised to verify information through official sources before sharing personal details or taking any action based on online messages.
For citizens seeking information about tracking ID cases, NADRA has provided official channels that can be used instead of social media comments. Citizens can check tracking information through the SMS service by sending a message to 8400. They can also contact NADRA through its helpline at 051 111 786 100 or by dialing 1777 from a mobile phone. The authority also provides identity related services through the PakID mobile application, which is NADRA’s official application for identity registration, updates and service tracking. NADRA’s official website also states that its social media platforms are used to provide updates and respond to public queries, while service related complaints can be submitted through its online complaint portal.
The warning comes as NADRA continues to expand its digital identity infrastructure and introduce additional safeguards around citizens’ information. The authority’s digital identity platform includes features such as an identity vault, verifiable credentials, QR based document verification and consent management designed to give individuals greater control over how their information is accessed. Earlier this year, the federal government also notified amendments to the National Identity Card Rules, 2002 and Pakistan Origin Card Rules, 2002, introducing QR based verification and additional authentication measures. NADRA has separately stated that its official website operates through the nadra.gov.pk domain and advised users to verify website domains before providing personal information, making payments or accessing online services.
