National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has released an upgraded version of its Pak ID mobile app that aims to transform how citizens manage their identity documentation. Version 5.0.0 of the app introduces real-time tracking, biometric verification, and a range of expanded features that allow Pakistani citizens, including those living abroad, to access services on their smartphones rather than visiting NADRA offices. With a redesigned bilingual interface in English and Urdu, enhanced search functions, and a simplified process for card cancellations, the app is designed to make identity services faster, more transparent, and paperless across both urban and rural areas.
Among the new features, real-time application tracking allows users to monitor the status of their CNIC, NICOP, or other identity-related requests directly from the app’s inbox. An online death registration facility has also been introduced in partnership with Union Councils in selected districts, reflecting the growing emphasis on digital collaboration between government bodies. Facial biometric verification is another key addition, giving citizens the ability to verify their identity through their smartphones. The app also supports online fee payments via debit or credit card, viewing family records without biometric authentication, and booking appointments at NADRA centres. Services such as Smart National ID Cards (SNIC), Child Registration Certificates (CRC), and Family Registration Certificates (FRC) are now fully accessible digitally.
Citizens can complete the entire ID application process through their smartphones by signing up or logging in on the app, selecting their service type, capturing live portrait photos and fingerprints via guided tutorials, uploading supporting documents, paying securely online, and then tracking the application in real time until delivery. NADRA says this update results in faster loading times and smoother navigation, ensuring a more user-friendly experience for both local and overseas Pakistanis. For those abroad, the upgraded app offers a fully digital process for new, renewal, modification, or reprint NICOP applications. Applicants are guided through steps to upload personal information, photographs, and required documents before downloading fingerprint and attester forms. Once submitted, the NICOP is delivered directly to the overseas address provided.
The upgraded Pak ID app currently supports a range of services including reprints for lost or damaged CNICs, modifications for updating details such as name, address, marital status or photo, renewals for expiring CNICs, and new overseas ID applications. Applicants can choose between Normal, Urgent, and Executive processing categories, with delivery either to a home address or to a designated NADRA centre. By integrating biometric verification, online death registration, and real-time tracking in one platform, NADRA underscores its commitment to supporting Pakistan’s digital transformation agenda. Officials have urged citizens to download the updated app as a secure and convenient alternative to in-person visits, signalling a significant step towards more efficient and citizen-friendly identity services.
