The federal government has appointed Muhammad Amir Malik as the new Member (International Coordination) at the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication. The appointment, confirmed by the Establishment Division, follows the approval of the Prime Minister under the MP-I scale, the highest tier in the Management Pay Scales framework. Malik’s appointment reflects the government’s intent to expand Pakistan’s international engagement in technology and digital policy, aligning with the country’s broader objectives to strengthen global partnerships and attract foreign investment in the ICT sector.

According to the official notification, Malik’s tenure will span three years from the date he assumes charge, as per the MP Scales Policy 2020. His new role positions him at the forefront of Pakistan’s digital diplomacy, overseeing coordination with international technology companies, global digital platforms, and multilateral institutions. Malik will also be responsible for promoting strategic collaborations in areas such as emerging technologies, ICT infrastructure development, cybersecurity, and human capital partnerships. By fostering relationships with development partners and digital investors, his mandate extends to driving cooperation that supports Pakistan’s growing digital economy and enhances its international presence.

Malik’s appointment comes at a crucial time for Pakistan’s technology landscape. The government has been actively pursuing initiatives to strengthen digital governance, improve broadband infrastructure, and support local innovation ecosystems. In this environment, effective international coordination is essential to ensure that Pakistan remains aligned with global technology standards and benefits from cross-border partnerships. Malik’s extensive experience in ICT policy and digital development is expected to facilitate greater collaboration with international stakeholders, opening new opportunities for knowledge exchange and investment. His role will also contribute to improving Pakistan’s position in global digital indices and enhancing the country’s reputation as a participant in the global technology dialogue.

As Pakistan intensifies its efforts to accelerate digital transformation and boost IT exports, Malik’s leadership in international coordination will play an integral role in linking national initiatives with global trends. The Ministry’s expanding engagement with international technology companies and policy forums highlights Pakistan’s ambition to position itself as a credible partner in the global digital ecosystem. Through this appointment, the government aims to ensure continuity in international digital partnerships and build a foundation for sustained collaboration across borders, enabling Pakistan to further integrate into the global knowledge economy.
