After a strong 2025 that marked the return of Silent Hill and delivered several well received horror releases, 2026 is shaping up to be an equally memorable year for fans of survival horror. The coming months will see long running franchises return to their roots, cult classics receive modern remakes, and a major horror film series finally make its long awaited debut in the gaming space. Together, these releases highlight how the genre continues to evolve while staying faithful to the tension, atmosphere, and psychological fear that define it.
One of the biggest releases of the year is Resident Evil Requiem, launching on February 27, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. CAPCOM is celebrating 30 years of the franchise by returning players to Raccoon City, this time set three decades after the original outbreak. As the ninth mainline entry, the game introduces a new protagonist, FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft, daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak. Her investigation into the ruins of the city eventually intersects with an older and battle hardened Leon S. Kennedy, whose appearance may mark his final chapter in the series. With the option to switch between first and third person perspectives and a more persistent stalking enemy system, Resident Evil Requiem aims to deliver a focused survival horror experience that leans heavily into tension and exploration.
Just weeks earlier, on February 13, 2026, Tarsier Studios will release Reanimal on the same platforms. Known for their work on the first two Little Nightmares titles, the studio is expanding its signature style into a new setting with a co op focused structure. Reanimal follows a brother and sister navigating a grotesque and hostile world in search of their missing friends. The game retains the unsettling visual identity that defined Tarsier’s earlier projects while scaling up creature design and environmental storytelling. Its release date falling on Friday the 13th feels appropriate for a title built around unease and slow burning fear. March 12, 2026 will also bring Fatal Frame II Crimson Butterfly Remake to modern hardware. Developed with involvement from Team NINJA, the remake enhances visuals, lighting, and gameplay while preserving the emotional core of the story centered on twin sisters Mio and Mayu. New mechanics such as the Hold Hands system deepen exploration and survival, while an updated Camera Obscura adds flexibility to encounters within the cursed Minakami Village.
Later in the year, IllFonic will release Halloween The Game on September 8, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Known for its work in asymmetric multiplayer horror, the studio is expanding its scope by including a dedicated single player story mode. Developed in collaboration with Compass International Pictures and original director John Carpenter, the game draws inspiration from the 1978 film’s slow paced suspense. Players can experience the night from the perspective of Michael Myers or as one of the residents of Haddonfield trying to survive. Closing out the list is Clive Barker’s Hellraiser Revival, scheduled for release in 2026 on PC and current generation consoles. Developed by Saber Interactive, the first person survival horror title brings Doug Bradley back as Pinhead and places players in the role of Aidan Lynch as he navigates the Labyrinth to save his girlfriend. With brutal melee combat, puzzle solving through the Genesis Configuration, and narrative input from Clive Barker, the game aims to faithfully translate the franchise’s dark mythology into interactive form.
