The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has officially launched the recruitment process for a new Chief Executive Officer of the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) following the resignation of its outgoing CEO, Abu Bakar. The ministry announced the vacancy and invited applications from experienced professionals to lead the organization for a three-year contractual term, signaling the beginning of another leadership transition at one of Pakistan’s key digital institutions.

According to the announcement, the selected CEO will oversee the execution of PSEB’s ongoing projects and introduce new initiatives to further strengthen Pakistan’s IT and IT-enabled services (ITES) industry. The board seeks an individual capable of steering its strategic programs in alignment with national priorities to boost IT exports, enhance global competitiveness, and expand the country’s digital economy footprint. The role comes with a clear mandate to continue building upon existing partnerships and to sustain momentum in initiatives that position Pakistan as a preferred destination for technology and outsourcing services.

As per the eligibility criteria, applicants must hold at least sixteen years of education in engineering, ICT, business administration, finance, marketing, or other related disciplines from an HEC-accredited institution. They must also possess a minimum of 15 years of professional experience, including at least five years in a senior leadership position within the corporate or public sector. In addition, candidates must fulfill the “Fit and Proper” criteria defined under the State-Owned Enterprise (Governance and Operations) Act, 2023. The deadline for applications is November 4, 2025, and submissions can be made online through the National Job Portal and the Tech Destination website.

The search for new leadership follows the departure of Abu Bakar, who resigned from his position citing personal reasons. His last day in office was confirmed by MoITT earlier today. Abu Bakar had been appointed CEO in October 2024 after the position had remained unfilled for nearly two years. During his tenure, he played a key role in driving several reforms aimed at improving coordination between the government and private sector stakeholders. His contributions included efforts to enhance Pakistan’s IT export ecosystem, improve industry collaboration, and promote the country’s technology services internationally.

Under Abu Bakar’s leadership, PSEB strengthened engagement with global partners and worked to streamline processes that support IT companies in accessing international markets. His work was particularly focused on aligning export strategies with emerging technologies and fostering an environment conducive to innovation and business growth. The transition in leadership now provides MoITT with an opportunity to bring in a new executive who can build on these foundations, further institutionalize reforms, and accelerate progress toward achieving Pakistan’s IT export goals.

PSEB continues to play a pivotal role in the digital transformation journey of Pakistan by enabling the growth of IT exporters, facilitating policy support, and representing the country at international technology forums. The appointment of a capable CEO is therefore critical to ensuring continuity, strategic direction, and effective execution of initiatives under the Digital Pakistan vision.
