Malala Yousufzai and Tim Cook (Apple Fund) launch an
initiative to provide education to 100,000 underprivileged girls

Two of the most famous personalities of the modern era, Tim Cook and Malala Yousafzai have joined hands to spread their work across a million! Yes, current CEO of Apple and the youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner, Tim Cook and Malala Yousafzai have collaborated to launch a program to provide education to 100,000 underprivileged girls.

Malala and App have laid out the plan to launch this program into countries including Afghanistan, Pakistan, Turkey, Nigeria and Lebanon. As a groundbreaking tie between the giants of their own fields, the tech power house and a woman rights and social activist of sorts, this initiative offers a multitude of resources and funding to Malala’s Fund in order to provide education to 100,000 underprivileged girls in these areas. What they hope to achieve from this mission is to reach the initial goal of 100,000 and hope to go beyond that.

Malala and Tim Cook have emphasized the need for free education and a long-term goal of further woman empowerment which also included reducing the gender gap in the UK and USA. A bold vision in its own right, Tim Cook highlighted the steps taken by Apple in this long-term effort in achieving equality. Education is the most fundamental step in eradicating the gender gap, Apple believes that collaborating with the Malala Fund will help them reach out to more girls and empower them through education.

Apple’s expertise in education, which stems from Steve Jobs belief, works hand in hand with Malala’s vision. Malala believes in providing education for over 130 million girls who are not yet in school. In an effort to double their local advocates, who are termed as Gulmakai Champions, they all use technology to provide education to children and they believe that further involvement from the government can improve this initiative. Malala highlighted that this initiative has been successful as the Champions in Nigeria have convinced the government to provide 12 years of compulsory education for all children which was previously limited to 9 years.

The underlying theme of this initiative also involves the importance of gender equality and providing equal job opportunities to females in comparison to males. Tim Cook believes that making codes more convenient to schools at every level and reducing the gender imbalance as a result of that will play a role in this endeavor as it will change the central dynamic in the schooling system.
