Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board has unveiled a two-year AI Innovation Hub project aimed at training 1,500 government school teachers and 1,000 government officers as part of the province’s digital transformation strategy. Under the initiative, teachers will receive training in digital and artificial intelligence literacy, while government executives will be equipped with AI leadership skills intended to support data driven policymaking and improve decision making across public sector departments.
The project also includes the establishment of a School of AI, where more than 2,000 students and public servants will receive practical AI education and hands on training aimed at preparing a skilled workforce for an AI driven economy. The initiative reflects a broader push by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board to embed AI literacy across both the education system and the civil service rather than treating the two as separate tracks.
As part of the broader initiative, the board plans to develop an AI governance policy, ethical AI guidelines, and AI impact assessment frameworks intended to support the responsible deployment of artificial intelligence across more than 50 government departments. This governance component adds a regulatory dimension to the project, positioning it as more than a straightforward training program by attempting to set standards for how AI tools are adopted and used within provincial government institutions.
According to the project brief, the AI Innovation Hub will bring together government institutions, universities, startups, and the private sector to strengthen AI infrastructure, improve public services, and build a sustainable digital ecosystem in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while supporting Pakistan’s National AI Policy. The initiative adds to a series of AI focused training programs launched across Pakistan’s provinces in recent months, reflecting continued momentum behind building both public sector and civil society AI literacy as artificial intelligence adoption expands across government services nationwide.
