Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has formally approved the integration of Artificial Intelligence education into the curriculum of all public schools, signaling a significant step toward modernizing the province’s education framework. The decision was finalized during a high-level meeting of Elementary and Secondary Education Department chaired by Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi. Officials noted that this initiative reflects a broader commitment to equip students with the digital and technological skills necessary for success in the 21st century.
The National Artificial Intelligence Course will be introduced from Grade 6 onward in every government school across the province. Education authorities have been instructed to ensure the availability of qualified teachers, up-to-date learning resources, and the required infrastructure to facilitate the program. Integrating AI into school curricula aims to prepare students for a rapidly evolving digital environment where skills in innovation, coding, and data literacy are increasingly critical. Officials stated that early exposure to AI will enhance analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and practical understanding of emerging technologies.
Chief Minister Sohail Afridi emphasized that AI education will position students to compete globally and meet the demands of industries that rely on advanced technological knowledge. By introducing AI concepts at the school level, the government intends to strengthen students’ capabilities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields. Education experts highlighted that this approach could make Khyber Pakhtunkhwa a frontrunner among Pakistan’s provinces in promoting technology-driven education, setting a precedent for incorporating AI in public schooling systems.
Beyond classroom learning, the initiative is expected to address gaps in digital accessibility and ensure equitable access to AI education for students from different socioeconomic backgrounds. The program is designed not only to teach theoretical concepts but also to provide hands-on exposure to machine learning, coding exercises, and data management tools, giving students practical skills applicable in future careers. Education authorities are reportedly planning to monitor implementation closely, including teacher training and resource distribution, to ensure smooth rollout and ongoing improvement of the curriculum.
Officials noted that equipping students with AI knowledge is part of a larger effort to build a technologically skilled workforce capable of contributing to Pakistan’s growing digital economy. The initiative is aligned with broader educational and technological policies aimed at enhancing STEM education and fostering innovation from an early age. By preparing students to navigate and contribute to an increasingly digital world, KP government hopes to bridge the technological gap and lay the groundwork for future advancements in science and technology across the province.
