Pakistan has launched Clear Minds, the world’s first AI-powered drug awareness and prevention platform, marking a significant step in the use of technology to address substance abuse. Unveiled in Islamabad on World Drug Day, the initiative is led by Karim Khan Afridi Welfare Foundation in collaboration with Smart Forum, reflecting a growing shift towards AI-driven solutions for complex social challenges.
According to United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Pakistan had around 6.7 million drug users in 2024, with close to 2 million categorized as addicts. These numbers highlight the urgent need for scalable solutions that can reach underserved populations and overcome barriers related to stigma, infrastructure, and limited resources. Clear Minds offers a digital platform capable of expanding outreach and delivering consistent, judgment-free support and education to millions across the country.
The platform combines awareness, prevention, and support into a single mobile application designed for schools, NGOs, awareness campaigns, and community programs. It includes a knowledge hub with expert-led videos, recovery stories, downloadable materials, and visual content from across the country, making verified information accessible to all. At the heart of the application is an AI-powered chatbot that offers 24/7 assistance, providing users with compassionate, accurate, and non-judgmental responses about drugs and addiction-related concerns.
For educators and facilitators, Clear Minds includes a specialized Retrieval-Augmented Generation chatbot trained on official manuals and program handbooks to ensure consistent and fast responses to queries. Administrative users can access a real-time dashboard that tracks community outreach sessions, logs engagement milestones, and manages reporting with built-in surveys and feedback tools to capture structured insights from users.
Smart Forum is preparing to roll out additional AI-driven analytics to help program managers evaluate effectiveness, understand reach, and improve future strategies based on real-time data. This kind of data-backed decision-making is key to evolving support mechanisms for those at risk or already impacted by substance use.
