Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved the introduction of Artificial Intelligence education in all public schools, making it the first province in Pakistan to integrate AI into its standard curriculum. Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi chaired the meeting finalizing the plan, emphasizing the need to prepare students for a rapidly evolving digital environment. Under this initiative, the National Artificial Intelligence Course will be implemented for students from Grade 6 onward across all government schools, aiming to equip the younger generation with skills relevant to emerging global industries.

Chief Minister Sohail Afridi highlighted that AI education will allow students to compete on an international level and meet the growing demands of technology-driven sectors. He described the move as a significant reform in education that combines digital literacy with practical innovation. By embedding AI into the curriculum, KP aims to provide students with foundational knowledge in coding, data management, and problem-solving, positioning them for future opportunities in both local and international markets. The initiative is expected to foster a culture of analytical thinking and digital competency among students from an early age.

The Elementary and Secondary Education Department has been assigned the responsibility of ensuring smooth implementation, including training teachers, providing modern learning resources, and establishing the necessary infrastructure. Officials stressed that the success of the program depends on equipping schools with up-to-date technology and supporting educators to deliver the AI curriculum effectively. Experts suggest that this step will help bridge the digital divide in Pakistan, offering equitable access to modern education tools and nurturing innovation skills that are essential for the 21st century.

Education analysts note that KP’s decision could set a benchmark for other provinces, promoting technology-led learning across the country. Integrating AI education is seen as a key strategy to develop a workforce prepared for automation, machine learning, and data-driven industries. By introducing students to AI concepts early, the province seeks to create a digitally capable generation that can contribute to Pakistan’s knowledge economy while enhancing critical thinking and technical expertise. This initiative reflects a growing recognition of the role of technology in shaping future education policies and empowering youth with practical skills for global competitiveness.
