Khan Academy has officially launched Khan Academy Pakistan (KAP), an initiative aimed at transforming the education landscape in Pakistan. This move promises to provide high-quality, accessible, and personalized education to millions of students and teachers across the country, addressing key challenges such as low literacy rates and limited access to quality education.
The launch event, held at Marriott Hotel, brought together educators, policymakers, and corporate leaders to unveil Khan Academy’s new learning tool, Khanmigo. Tailored to Pakistan’s educational needs, Khanmigo offers personalized learning experiences for students and supports teachers in improving classroom management and student engagement.
Sal Khan, Founder of Khan Academy, expressed the organization’s commitment to making world-class learning accessible to all, emphasizing the importance of education in shaping a brighter future for Pakistan’s youth. Osman Rashid, Chairperson of Khan Academy Pakistan, highlighted the potential of this initiative to bring meaningful change to the country’s education system by integrating localized content to ensure that every child, regardless of their circumstances, has access to quality learning.
Zeeshan Hasan, CEO of Khan Academy Pakistan, also reinforced the mission to address educational inequities, believing that this initiative would create opportunities for a prosperous and inclusive Pakistan.
Pakistan’s education system faces significant challenges, including high dropout rates and inadequate infrastructure. KAP addresses these challenges through a localized curriculum aligned with Pakistan’s national education standards, with content available in Urdu and regional languages. The initiative also aims to empower teachers by providing tools and training to enhance their classroom teaching capabilities. Special emphasis will be placed on public schools and low-income students to maximize impact.
The initial phase of the program will focus on supporting teachers by utilizing Khanmigo as a teaching assistant. KAP has partnered with several public education institutions, including AKHUWAT, CARE Foundation, TCF, Foundation Public School, and others. The second phase, set for 2025, will involve collaboration with leading private school networks.
The Khan Academy Pakistan initiative has been supported by a collective of Pakistani diaspora and local leaders, including prominent figures such as Osman Rashid, Naeem Zamindar, Amin Hashwani, and others. KAP is funded by supporters from across the globe, who share the vision of improving education in Pakistan through technology.
Khan Academy Pakistan represents a significant step forward in addressing Pakistan’s educational challenges. With its focus on localized content, teacher support, and a commitment to equity, KAP is poised to make a lasting impact, providing new opportunities for students and educators across the country.
