JazzWorld and UNICEF have signed a Letter of Intent to explore joint initiatives aimed at expanding digital inclusion, improving online safety and preparing young people to participate in an increasingly artificial intelligence-driven economy. The proposed collaboration will focus on children, young people, women and underserved communities across Pakistan, combining JazzWorld’s technology and connectivity capabilities with UNICEF’s expertise in child rights and development. The agreement identifies four priority areas: digital inclusion and youth empowerment, online safety and digital well-being, technology-enabled humanitarian response, and public advocacy. The announcement comes as access to digital skills and responsible AI use becomes increasingly important for education, employment and participation in the digital economy. Through the proposed partnership, both organizations intend to identify practical initiatives that help communities access digital opportunities while addressing risks associated with online activity.

Digital education and skills development will be central to the collaboration. JazzWorld and UNICEF plan to explore ways to expand access to digital literacy, learning resources and skills training, particularly for young people from underserved communities. These capabilities are also important for helping students and young professionals understand how AI tools work and how to use them safely and responsibly. The organizations will also examine opportunities to support Pakistan’s Digital Youth Hub, established by the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme in partnership with UNICEF. JazzWorld could contribute technical capabilities to help the platform support learning, employability and participation in the digital economy. The announcement does not specify the exact programmes, funding arrangements or implementation timeline, as the organizations will need to determine the details of individual initiatives following the signing of the Letter of Intent.

Online safety and digital well-being form another major part of the proposed partnership. The organizations will explore awareness campaigns and digital literacy initiatives designed to help children, adolescents and girls participate more safely in online spaces. Potential areas of focus include addressing online harassment, abuse and other technology-facilitated risks while promoting responsible digital behaviour. As more young people use internet-connected devices for education, communication and entertainment, digital access must also be accompanied by awareness of privacy, security and appropriate online conduct. The proposed collaboration aims to encourage safer participation while helping families and communities better understand the opportunities and risks associated with digital technologies. Public advocacy, cause-related campaigns and customer and employee engagement may also be explored to extend awareness of digital inclusion and child protection.

The fourth priority area involves using technology to improve humanitarian response and disaster preparedness. JazzWorld and UNICEF will assess opportunities to use mobile connectivity and digital communication platforms to distribute early warnings and provide timely information to communities affected by emergencies. Such capabilities could support communication during floods and other disasters, when access to reliable information is important for public safety and the coordination of assistance. Syed Zaheer Mehdi, Group Chief Corporate and Regulatory Affairs at JazzWorld, said that bridging the digital divide is essential to addressing the emerging AI divide, highlighting the importance of access, skills and safe digital environments. The partnership remains at the exploratory stage, with specific projects and their timelines yet to be announced. If translated into practical programmes, the collaboration could connect digital skills development, child online protection and emergency communication under a shared effort to expand access to technology and help more people benefit from Pakistan’s evolving digital economy.
