JazzCash, Pakistan’s leading digital financial services platform, has commenced disbursing financial assistance to eligible citizens under the Punjab Government’s “Maryam Ko Batain” Programme, in partnership with the Punjab Social Protection Authority. The initiative is a social protection effort designed to provide timely financial relief to vulnerable households across the province, with each verified beneficiary receiving PKR 10,000 in assistance through a fully digital disbursement mechanism.
The process is structured to ensure both accessibility and accountability. Citizens register their requests through a designated government helpline or mobile application, after which the relevant authorities carry out verification before any funds are released. Once a case is cleared, JazzCash facilitates secure digital transfers directly to the beneficiary within a government-mandated turnaround time of 24 hours, ensuring that assistance reaches recipients without unnecessary delays and through transparent, traceable channels. Since the programme’s launch, JazzCash has already disbursed funds to more than 35,000 beneficiaries, with the ripple effect of that support estimated to have positively impacted over 300,000 lives across Punjab by helping families access critical financial resources at the time they need them most.
Arif Chaudary, Head of Public Sector Partnerships at JazzCash, spoke to the broader significance of the collaboration, noting that digital platforms are fundamentally changing how governments deliver social protection. He emphasised that through the partnership with the Punjab Social Protection Authority, JazzCash is enabling financial assistance to reach citizens quickly, securely, and with dignity, and described the programme as a demonstration of how digital payments infrastructure can enhance transparency while expanding access to essential support for underserved communities.
The partnership between JazzCash and the Punjab Social Protection Authority reflects a growing recognition within both the public and private sectors that digital financial infrastructure is no longer a convenience but a necessity for effective welfare delivery at scale. By reducing friction in the distribution of public funds and bringing more citizens into the formal financial system, the collaboration sets a precedent for how provincial governments in Pakistan can harness fintech platforms to strengthen social protection frameworks and ensure that assistance reaches those who need it most, efficiently and without compromise.
