Jazz has launched FikrFree, an AI-powered digital marketplace aimed at bridging the significant gap in the country’s insurance and healthcare sectors. The announcement was made at the VEON Management Strategy Workshop in Dubai, where Jazz CEO Aamir Ibrahim unveiled the platform, which integrates insurance, healthcare, and financial services into a single mobile application. This initiative aligns with VEON’s broader Digital Operator 1440 strategy, which focuses on providing connected digital services that enhance everyday life.
Pakistan’s insurance sector remains highly underdeveloped, with penetration rates below 1% of GDP, according to the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan. In stark contrast, insurance penetration exceeds 7% of GDP in the United States and more than 9% in the United Kingdom, according to World Bank data. This lack of financial security leaves millions of Pakistanis without access to essential healthcare, an issue that FikrFree aims to address by providing affordable and personalized insurance options. By leveraging artificial intelligence, the platform recommends tailored insurance plans for users, making it easier for individuals to find coverage suited to their specific needs.
FikrFree offers several flexible payment models, including pay-as-you-go, micro-insurance, and nano-insurance policies, ensuring accessibility for a broader audience. A key feature of the platform is its streamlined claims processing system, which allows customers to submit claims in just a few clicks and receive payouts within 36 hours. This simplified process significantly reduces the barriers that have historically deterred people from adopting insurance services. Additionally, the platform provides access to specialist doctors and on-demand medicine delivery, making comprehensive healthcare more accessible to Pakistanis.
The launch of FikrFree builds upon the success of Jazz’s existing digital services portfolio. Jazz’s digital entertainment platform Tamasha recorded 18 million monthly active users (MAUs) in the second quarter of 2024, while JazzCash, Pakistan’s largest fintech platform, had 17.7 million MAUs. Additionally, SIMOSA, Pakistan’s largest telecom and lifestyle hub, reached 15.2 million MAUs during the same period. These figures highlight Jazz’s growing influence in the country’s digital landscape, and FikrFree is expected to further strengthen its position as a leading provider of essential digital services.
VEON’s investment in digital healthcare is not limited to Pakistan. The company’s Kyivstar subsidiary in Ukraine has developed Helsi, a health-tech platform with around 28 million registered users as of the second quarter of 2024. Similarly, in Bangladesh, the MyBL super app, which served 8.1 million MAUs at the end of Q2 2024, offers the Banglalink Health Hub. These initiatives underscore VEON’s commitment to integrating technology with essential services to improve quality of life across its operational markets.
VEON Group CEO Kaan Terzioglu emphasized the significance of FikrFree in Pakistan’s digital transformation journey, stating that access to affordable healthcare is a fundamental need. He noted that the launch of FikrFree aligns with VEON’s mission to empower customers with digital services that address real-life challenges. By providing seamless access to insurance plans, specialist medical consultations, and medication delivery, the platform is set to revolutionize healthcare accessibility in Pakistan.
VEON operates across six countries, serving nearly 160 million customers in regions that collectively represent over 7% of the world’s population. As a Nasdaq and Euronext-listed company, VEON continues to drive digital innovation through technology-driven services that empower individuals and contribute to economic growth. With Jazz leading the charge in Pakistan, the introduction of FikrFree marks a pivotal step in addressing the country’s insurance and healthcare challenges through a scalable, AI-driven solution.
