Pakistan’s largest and most advanced Information Technology Park in Islamabad has entered its final phase of construction, with the federal government describing the project as a major step toward creating new opportunities for the country’s youth and its broader digital economy. Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja visited the under construction site to review the progress of the project firsthand, inspecting various floors of the facility and receiving a detailed briefing from officials on the pace of construction, the project’s completion timeline, and the key components that will make up the finished technology hub.
Expressing satisfaction with the quality of work observed during the visit, the minister directed relevant authorities to ensure the highest construction and finishing standards are maintained through to the project’s completion, signaling that the final stretch of work will continue to receive close ministerial oversight rather than being left entirely to contractors and site engineers. Speaking on the occasion, she described the IT Park as a landmark initiative that will provide Pakistani youth with world class facilities and greater access to opportunities in the global technology industry, framing the project as something intended to directly benefit the country’s large youth population by giving them physical infrastructure comparable to established technology hubs elsewhere in the world.
According to the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, the Islamabad IT Park is expected to play a vital role in promoting Pakistan’s information technology sector by providing international standard infrastructure, encouraging innovation, and generating employment opportunities once fully operational. The government has framed the facility as more than simply an office building for technology companies, positioning it instead as a piece of foundational infrastructure intended to support the broader ecosystem of software development, IT enabled services, and innovation that the ministry has been working to expand through various other initiatives over the past year.
The government said the project will be formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif upon its completion, giving the facility’s opening ceremony a high profile political dimension consistent with how other major digital infrastructure projects have been launched in Pakistan recently.
