Under the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, all 21 routes of Islamabad’s electric bus service are now fully operational, providing citizens with reliable, affordable, and environmentally friendly transportation options. Since the launch of the service, public response has been overwhelmingly positive, with daily ridership steadily increasing. On a single day, reports indicate that approximately 102,000 citizens utilized the electric bus service, highlighting the growing adoption of sustainable urban mobility solutions within the capital.

Progress on the project and other development initiatives was reviewed during a meeting chaired by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa. The session included Member Administration Talat Mahmood, Member Engineering Nifasat Raza, Member Planning Dr Khalid Hafeez, the Director General Procurement and Contract, senior officers, and project directors of related schemes. Officials presented a detailed assessment of ongoing projects, including urban mobility, city infrastructure, and planned commercial developments, ensuring coordinated execution and timely completion.

The construction of the electric bus depot, comprising two sites, is reported to be nearly complete, with approximately 97 percent of the work finalized. Site A of the depot has been fully constructed, providing essential infrastructure for vehicle maintenance, charging stations, and operational management. The depot is expected to support increased efficiency of bus operations while accommodating future expansion of the service. The comprehensive depot facilities are integral to maintaining service reliability and providing a modern commuting experience for Islamabad residents.

During the meeting, progress on the project to connect Margalla Avenue with the M-1 Motorway was also reviewed. Officials discussed construction timelines, urban planning considerations, and anticipated traffic flow improvements, which are expected to facilitate smoother transport links within the city and to regional highways. Additional deliberations covered major commercial projects, including the construction of the Convention, Expo, and Exhibition Centre, as well as a proposed luxury hotel. These projects are aligned with efforts to strengthen Islamabad’s infrastructure, promote business and tourism, and enhance overall urban development while integrating sustainable transportation options into the city’s growth strategy.

Islamabad’s electric bus service reflects the government’s commitment to modernizing public transport and supporting eco-friendly mobility solutions. By combining efficient infrastructure, high-capacity bus networks, and strategic urban planning, the initiative aims to improve citizens’ daily commute while contributing to reduced environmental impact. Officials continue to monitor ridership trends and operational performance, ensuring that services meet the growing demands of the city’s population. The integration of these projects with broader city development plans demonstrates a comprehensive approach to enhancing public services, supporting economic activity, and fostering sustainable urban growth in Pakistan’s capital.
