The Pakistan Airports Authority has launched an Indoor 5G Connectivity Project at Islamabad International Airport, positioning it among one of the leading airports in the country to introduce a comprehensive indoor 5G network aimed at improving passenger connectivity and digital services. The project was inaugurated during a ceremony held at the airport, where officials described it as a major step toward modernizing airport infrastructure and improving the overall passenger experience.
Speaking at the event, Islamabad International Airport Chief Executive Officer Syed Aftab Shah Gillani said the project would provide high speed, uninterrupted mobile connectivity across the terminal building once it becomes fully operational. He said the improved connectivity would enhance the digital experience for passengers while supporting operational efficiency for airlines and other stakeholders working at the airport, allowing for smoother communication and service delivery throughout the facility.
Gillani added that the project would also create new opportunities for non aeronautical revenue generation for the Pakistan Airports Authority. He said the initiative forms part of the authority’s broader strategy to modernize airport infrastructure, improve passenger convenience, and support Pakistan’s digital transformation, tying the project to wider efforts across the aviation sector to bring airport facilities in line with modern connectivity standards.
Officials from the Pakistan Airports Authority said the Indoor 5G Connectivity Project reflects the authority’s commitment to adopting advanced technologies and expressed confidence that it would serve as a model for other airports across Pakistan. The rollout comes as authorities continue to prioritize digital upgrades across major transport infrastructure, with airport officials suggesting the approach could be extended to additional terminals as part of ongoing modernization plans across the country’s aviation network.
