The Institute of Business Management in Karachi has announced that faculty members from its College of Business Management have successfully secured a United Kingdom Registered Design Right from the UK Government’s Intellectual Property Office, marking a significant milestone for Pakistani academic research receiving formal international intellectual property recognition.
The registered design, granted under Design Number 6532876, was secured by Professor Dr. Muhammad Kashif, Dean of the College of Business Management, Dr. Sarah Wali Qazi, Associate Dean of the College of Business Management, and Dr. Tarique Mahmood, Associate Professor. The protected design is described as a Computing Device for Organisational Asset Analytics and Policy Simulation, a research contribution that the Institute of Business Management says has significant implications for the fields of organisational management and computational analytics, areas where data-driven decision tools and simulation frameworks are increasingly being adopted by enterprises and public sector organisations to inform strategic planning and resource allocation.
A United Kingdom Registered Design Right provides the holder with exclusive rights over the appearance of a product as registered, offering legal protection against unauthorised reproduction of the design in the United Kingdom and serving as formal international recognition of the novelty and distinctiveness of the contribution. For a Pakistani academic institution to secure such protection through the UK Intellectual Property Office places the Institute of Business Management’s research output within an internationally credentialed framework, strengthening the institution’s standing in global academic and research circles.
The achievement reflects a growing momentum in Pakistani higher education around intellectual property creation, protection, and commercialisation, driven partly by university policy reforms and partly by a broader national push to encourage academic institutions to translate research into tangible, protected outputs that can be recognised and potentially monetised in international markets. For IoBM and its College of Business Management specifically, the UK Registered Design Right represents a concrete demonstration that its faculty research is producing work of sufficient novelty and practical significance to meet the standards of one of the world’s most rigorous intellectual property registration systems.
