The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom, Government of Pakistan to fund research and development projects proposed by students and academia, formed the National ICT R&D Fund back in 2007.

Recently, the Fund has released its First Quarterly Newsletter – Ignite, in editorial partnership with IDG Pakistan. The newsletter production is a joint collaboration between Ministry of IT & Telecom, National ICT R&D Fund, and IDG Pakistan. The newsletter will be a quarterly showcase of happenings from around the local ICT and Telecom space, our vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem, blogs contributed by industry thought leaders, and details of the projects funded.

Speaking about his vision for the Fund, Mr. Yusuf Hussain, Chief Executive Officer at the National ICT R&D Fund said:

Our company is funding some breakthrough research, which can widely impact society. We have also launched a host of initiatives like incubators, specialty incubators, training programs and studies that are designed to plug holes in the startup and innovation ecosystem in Pakistan, with the objective of making its economy and society truly knowledge-enabled.

Commenting on the partnership with global technology media brand, IDG, he said:

With publications like Computer World, PC World, and many others, IDG has been a global brand in popular IT publications since a long time. It has attained great success in providing important insights into IT developments and concepts in digestible and interest-evoking form for millions of readers worldwide.

IDG can help us get the word out to our key audiences in language that will interest and inspire them, and it is exciting for us to partner with IDG for our newsletter.

The blogs section is a contribution by field experts, and cover technology areas including Robotics, Internet of Things, Augmented Reality, AI & Big Data, Entrepreneurship, and next-generation technologies. The newsletter is available on the official ICT R&D website!
