Pakistan’s information and communications technology (ICT) sector continued its strong momentum at the start of the new fiscal year, recording export remittances worth US$ 354 million in July 2025. This represents an impressive 23.8% year-on-year growth compared to US$ 286 million in July 2024. On a month-on-month basis, exports climbed by 4.4%, highlighting the sustained demand for Pakistan’s IT and IT-enabled services in international markets.

According to official data, the ICT sector not only led services exports but also outperformed other segments with a substantial trade surplus of US$ 317 million in July 2025. This figure marked a 25.8% increase from the surplus recorded in July 2024 and reinforced the sector’s position as the backbone of Pakistan’s services economy. In comparison, the overall services sector faced a trade deficit of US$ 126 million during the same month, underlining the ICT industry’s unique role in cushioning external account pressures.

ICT exports accounted for nearly half of Pakistan’s total services exports, contributing 47.5% of the overall tally. Within the services mix, ICT was followed by “Other Business Services,” which brought in US$ 151 million in July 2025. The strong performance of the ICT sector reflects a growing global appetite for software development, IT consultancy, and business process outsourcing services delivered from Pakistan. This resilience is particularly significant as the country continues to seek sustainable avenues for foreign exchange earnings.

Industry stakeholders view this growth as a testament to the competitiveness and adaptability of Pakistan’s tech talent. With supportive policy measures, increasing global partnerships, and consistent demand from international clients, ICT exports are expected to remain a cornerstone of Pakistan’s external trade. The steady climb also signals potential for achieving record-high figures in the current fiscal year, provided momentum continues across key service categories.
