Huawei Technologies has made a significant commitment to Pakistan’s technological future by pledging to provide advanced technical training to 60,000 Pakistanis, with the overall goal of training 300,000 individuals by the end of 2025. The announcement, made during a high-level meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Huawei CEO Ethen Sun, marks a strategic collaboration aimed at equipping Pakistan’s youth with critical skills in IT.

This ambitious initiative includes two main components: advanced IT training for 60,000 participants and basic IT training for 240,000 others. The effort is designed to provide young Pakistanis with the knowledge needed to succeed in the rapidly evolving digital landscape. The program will introduce courses in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, big data, and cybersecurity—areas that are increasingly becoming integral to global technological infrastructure.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during the meeting, emphasized the government’s commitment to providing technical education to the youth of Pakistan. He expressed that empowering the younger generation with these crucial skills is a top priority for the government. “Providing technical training to Pakistani youth in the field of information technology is the government’s top priority,” he said. The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of forming a long-term, mutually beneficial partnership with Huawei, expressing the government’s intention to continue nurturing the relationship. “We seek a strong and long-term partnership with Huawei,” Sharif added, underscoring the long-term vision of this collaboration.

Huawei’s training initiative will be implemented in collaboration with HEC of Pakistan, with a significant portion of the courses being offered at 15 universities across the country. This will give students access to world-class training and technical expertise, positioning them to contribute to Pakistan’s growing digital export sector. The project also includes the training of trainers and ICT professionals, ensuring that knowledge is effectively disseminated throughout the country and can be accessed by individuals in even the most remote areas.

As part of the program, Huawei has already trained more than 20,000 students and professionals, providing them with the necessary skills to excel in today’s technology-driven economy. Specially trained master trainers from Huawei will be deployed locally to ensure that the program reaches as many people as possible, particularly those in underserved regions. This local execution is crucial to ensuring that the benefits of the initiative are felt nationwide.

In line with its commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and impact, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has directed an independent evaluation of the training programs. This evaluation will be conducted by external organizations to ensure that the programs meet the expected outcomes and deliver real, measurable results in terms of skills development and employment opportunities.

The meeting, which was attended by several high-ranking officials including Federal Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, and HEC Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, was another significant step in Huawei’s ongoing cooperation with Pakistan. Huawei’s continued investment in Pakistan’s digital future, particularly in providing ICT training and skill-building opportunities, is seen as a key driver in the country’s efforts to strengthen its digital economy and workforce.

Through this partnership, Huawei is not just offering technical training, but is also contributing to Pakistan’s broader efforts to enhance its global competitiveness in the digital space. As digital economies continue to expand worldwide, initiatives like these are essential in ensuring that Pakistan remains a competitive player on the global stage. By upskilling its workforce, Pakistan is taking vital steps to prepare its youth for the digital jobs of tomorrow.

This collaboration represents a significant milestone in the development of Pakistan’s digital infrastructure and is expected to have a long-lasting impact on the country’s economic landscape. With Huawei’s commitment to providing top-tier ICT training, the initiative has the potential to transform the lives of thousands of young Pakistanis, equipping them with the tools to succeed in an increasingly tech-driven world.
