IRP Announces Development Of ORIC And TTOs

The Institute of Research Promotion aims to provide services in research activities in prominent sectors of the country and have now showcased an extensive national development initiative that works to focus on ORIC and TTOs,

 

Institute of Research Promotion (IRP) is an organization that is aimed to provide services in research related activities to promote quality research culture in the universities and corporate sector of Pakistan. As a non- profit organization working under the guidance and cooperation of researchers of academicians and industrialists, IRP allows researchers in universities and industry alike to collaborate and find solutions to modern day challenges and conduct researches collectively.  It has recently been reported that IRC have made a statement on their intent to focus on the promotion and development of the ORIC and TTOs.

The IRP have developed a program that is focusing on the development on the Offices of Research, Innovation & Commercialization and Technology Transfer Office respectively.In light of the plan portrayed by the company, they have highlighted 4 area focus on ORIC development with a special focus on universities. The first step includes the Institutionalization of ORICthat focus to legitimize the intent and policies of the ORIC. According to the IRP, this includes focusing on allowing two deputy directors from faculty along with director ORIC, Advisory committee consists of HoDs, Directors, and Deans to represent the university and make policies for ORIC, External advisory committee from chambers, business association, social sector, and government and finally, Team of competent professionals to execute ORIC function.

Once the organization is established, there is a need for a dynamic research policy needs to be established that can attract stakeholders and focuses on highlighting theresearch and technology culture in the university. This includes the ORIC working to collect data to grow in research and technology, devising policies related to research incentives, IP rights, appraisal rewards, business rules and research management mechanisms to satisfy internal faculty and external stakeholders. More policies include to ensuring exceptional execution of policies to drive research and technology culture and making revisions and improvement to respond to changing needs.

The third area focuses on ORIC providing services to research grantsby identifying grant opportunities for potential faculty members, encouraging faculty to submit and resubmit research grants proposals and provide services relating to financial planning, industry collaboration and language editing of proposals. The final area highlights providing services for technology to develop a technology centric portfolio and bring optimal revenue from technology sale. This can be done through collaborating industry with faculty research for applied projects, building faculty capacity for IPR, technology licensing, research commercialization and finally developing strong marketing and promotional strategies to market faculty research and bring revenue from the technology sale.
