HMD has launched the 2660 Flip Senior Edition in the UK, a traditional keypad phone with a built-in artificial intelligence (AI) companion designed for older users. The device is an upgraded version of the HMD 2660 Flip, and its main addition is an AI assistant called Mary that can hold conversations, remember previous interactions, and provide companionship. HMD developed the assistant in partnership with inTouch, a company that specialises in AI-powered calling services for older adults. The phone costs £79.99 (about $107) in the UK, and the price includes five hours of free conversations with Mary. After that, users must pay £16.90 per month (about $23) to keep using the AI assistant. The report does not mention availability in Pakistan.
Mary is built into the phone’s main menu, and users can reach her by pressing the call button, without installing an application or dialling a separate number. Initial setup requires scanning a QR code included in the packaging or visiting an activation webpage, and once activated, the assistant is available around the clock. HMD says Mary uses simple language, speaks slowly, and allows longer pauses during conversations, which suits users who may need more time to respond. It can also remember details from previous discussions to make interactions more personal. Users can talk to Mary about history, nature, and stories, play memory games, or simply have a conversation, and the service is aimed at helping older people feel less isolated.
The hardware is the same as the regular 2660 Flip. The phone has a 2.8-inch QVGA main display and a smaller 1.77-inch QQVGA external screen, and it runs on a Unisoc T107 processor with 64MB of RAM and 128MB of internal storage. It uses HMD’s S30+ operating system and has a 0.3MP rear camera. The phone measures 198.9 x 55 x 19mm and weighs 136.4 grams, with an IP54 rating for protection against dust and splashes. It also includes Bluetooth 5.0, a 3.5mm headphone jack, FM radio, an MP3 player, dual microphones, a single speaker, and a Nano SIM slot. Its removable 1,450mAh battery provides up to 8.1 hours of talk time, according to HMD, and it charges over USB-C.
The subscription terms are worth noting for buyers. HMD’s product page says the AI companion service does not renew automatically, that users pay only if they choose to continue after the trial, and that the phone keeps working as a normal flip phone if the trial expires. The monthly price differs by market, and HMD’s international page lists it at €19.90. HMD already sells simple handsets in Pakistan, and ProPakistani has separately reported the launch of the HMD 106 Pure in the country at Rs3,250, but the report on the Senior Edition does not say whether it will be sold here or what it would cost. For now, it is a UK product, and any plans for other markets have not been announced.
