Helldivers 2 has reportedly sold more than 20 million copies since its launch in 2024, with the majority of sales coming from PC players on Steam, according to Alinea Analytics. The third-person shooter quickly established itself as one of the standout multiplayer titles of the year despite early connectivity issues and initial controversy requiring PC players to link their PlayStation Network accounts to Steam. Its performance reflects the growing success of PlayStation’s strategy to release first-party titles across both console and PC platforms.

Following its launch, Helldivers 2 rose swiftly to the top of Steam charts and has maintained a dedicated player base, even if its peak popularity has slightly declined over time. By December 2025, the game had 3.6 million monthly active users across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. The title later expanded to Xbox consoles in the summer of 2025, coinciding with a notable crossover event involving Halo, marking the first time Halo content appeared on PlayStation ahead of any official announcement regarding the franchise’s arrival on the platform.

Sales distribution shows 13.1 million copies sold on PC, 5.6 million on PS5, and 1.6 million on Xbox Series X/S. The game has generated over $700 million in revenue for developer Arrowhead Studios and publisher PlayStation Studios. Continuous updates, including expansions like Into the Unjust and recent PC exclusive improvements, have helped maintain player engagement. One significant update reduced the game’s install size by 85 percent, freeing up storage space on players’ SSDs, demonstrating PlayStation Studios’ commitment to optimizing the experience for PC audiences.

Helldivers 2’s success also highlights the performance of previously console-exclusive third-person shooters. Comparisons with Gears of War Reloaded indicate that Helldivers 2 has outperformed the Xbox version of that title on PlayStation, emphasizing the potential reach of multi-platform launches. By sustaining content updates and maintaining a strong online community, Arrowhead Studios continues to strengthen Helldivers 2’s presence in the competitive multiplayer market. The game’s combination of accessible PC gameplay, cross-console features, and consistent post-launch support has contributed to its ongoing appeal, solidifying it as one of the most successful first-person and third-person shooters of recent years.
