Rockstar Games is reportedly considering a delay for the physical release of Grand Theft Auto VI, potentially pushing boxed copies to 2027, as the studio seeks to prevent leaks ahead of its highly anticipated launch. Sources suggest that the digital edition of GTA 6 will still release on November 19, 2026, but fans hoping to get hands-on physical copies may need to wait several months. The information comes from Polish outlet PPE, citing insider Graczdari, who has a history of providing accurate details about gaming titles including Oblivion: Remastered.

The decision to separate digital and physical launches is reportedly aimed at reducing the risk of unauthorized content surfacing online. Rockstar has faced multiple leaks during GTA 6’s development, including gameplay footage that was confirmed authentic by the studio. Such incidents have likely influenced Take-Two Interactive’s strategy, prompting the company to reconsider the timing of physical distribution. Some insiders suggest the boxed edition could arrive a few weeks after the digital launch, while others estimate early 2027 as a more realistic timeframe.

Fans have expressed mixed reactions to the potential delay. Digital pre-orders and early access will allow gamers to experience the title at launch, but collectors and players who prefer physical copies may face a longer wait. Take-Two Interactive’s upcoming quarterly earnings call on February 3 may offer more clarity on pre-orders and physical release plans, providing insights into how Rockstar intends to manage marketing and distribution leading up to the launch. The studio is expected to gradually increase promotional efforts as the release window draws closer.

This staggered release strategy reflects Rockstar’s careful approach to managing sensitive content and maintaining control over leaks. By focusing on a digital-first launch, the company aims to secure its intellectual property while still meeting the expectations of a global audience eager for GTA 6. More official information is anticipated in the coming months, helping fans better plan for both digital and physical editions of one of gaming’s most awaited titles.
